Meet the church at South Marion

Map of MarionThe South Marion church of Christ is a congregation of Christ’s disciples who have agreed to work and worship together as the New Testament directs. Individually, we call ourselves simply “Christians” because that is the name that Jesus’ disciples wore (Acts 11:26) and that is the name whereby we can glorify God. (1 Pet 4:16). Congregationally, we call ourselves a “church of Christ” as this is a Scriptural designation (Rom 16:16) for a congregation and one that also glorifies our Lord and Savior to whom we belong.

The church at South MarionWe seek to convert men to Jesus, not to ourselves. We have no clergy. We have no doctrine to defend but the gospel. We are still learning and do not claim to have all the answers. We would love to have you worship with us. We also extend an invitation for you to study the Bible with us. Let us meet you or hear from you soon.

After Paul was mistreated in Philippi, he continued to answer the Macedonian call for help by boldly preaching in Thessalonica amid much opposition (1 Thess 2:1-2).  Paul summed up the response of those who were converted to Christ is this way, “For our gospel did not come to you in word only, but also in power and in the Holy Spirit and with full conviction” (1 Thess 1:5).

Galatians and the Gospel: The Gospel is from Jesus not Man

In thinking about what to write this week, it occurred to me that there are six Sundays left in the year, counting today.  So, my mind was drawn to six chapter books of the N.T. (Galatians, Ephesians, and 1 Timothy).  Then I decided to center our thought in the closing days of 2014 on Galatians and its theme of the gospel, the good news of Jesus Christ.
